Antique Early 1900's W.M. Allerton&Co. Framed Print of Richard Ray (1765). Features W.M. Allerton&Co. tag on back as well as "Richard Ray, 1765: Husband of Sarah Bogart + Father of Cornelius Ray" marking.
More info:
W.M. Allerton & Co. was a prominent framing company in the early 1900s, known for its craftsmanship, with examples of its work represented in museums across the country.
The photograph in this frame is particularly interesting. Although the label on the back identifies the subject as Richard Ray, the image appears to be a reproduction of a portrait of his son, Cornelius Ray (1755–1827). Cornelius Ray was a prominent New York City merchant, banker, and member of the city's elite. He served as president of the New York branch of the Bank of the United States and as president of the New York Chamber of Commerce.
